Americans LOVE correct spelling and grammar!
I LOVE correct spelling and grammar!
One of these sentences is laden with sarcasm. One is not.
Now, I get it, spelling and grammar is not everyone's cup of tea. Just like numbers and maths make my head swim, so do apostrophes and spelling for other people. But if you are going to PAY MONEY to have something printed, well, then, surely you'd get a grammar head to look over it. I've seen all of the following in the space of two and a half months and all within a few kilometres / a mile or so of my house. So maybe I should be fair, perhaps it's Brooklynites who don’t love correct grammar and spelling, not the whole of America …
I actually saw this beauty when I was here in October last year, and imagine my surprise and delight when I saw it again days after landing in April. It’s too hard to know which two to use. I know.
Only Donald Trump would spell it your not you're #theapprentice
Excuse the quality of the first picture, I was in too much of a flurry of excitement at the misplaced apostrophe. On a major subway ad campaign.
A.
Major.
Subway.
Ad.
Campaign.
Imagine my delight when I saw it fixed a couple of days later. #youreactuallyfired #hashtagsdontneedapostrophesOK
Looks like the truck slogan printing company are going strong in BK, spelling mistakes or not. To be fair, surviving does phonetically sound similar to serve, and yet they are spelt different because English hard.
I can't even make a Magic Mike / Channing Tatum joke here because the sign would still be spelling his name wrong anyway. But if I could, it would be about how Channing can still chain his bicycle to my gate if he wants. Which kinda makes no sense anyway, but now you've seen it, you can't unsee it, so with that mental image in your head, I bid you adieu for now, bisous!
